Utilities customers in some small Nebraska towns bracing for big bills after cold snap

MATT OLBERDING Lincoln Journal Star Unprecedented winter weather in Texas has caused oil and gas prices to rise.The frigid temperatures increased fuel demand but also halted wells and refineries across the state. Texas rare cold snap left millions without power last night in controlled outages.  Wahoo officials thought they were prepared for last week s historic cold snap. The city, which owns its own electric and gas utilities, had short- and long-term natural gas futures contracts in place, and it had a comfortable amount of natural gas in storage in Oklahoma, said Ryan Hurst, Wahoo Utilities general manager. But then temperatures dipped to record levels, with wind chills dropping as low as the minus 40s in Wahoo.
