The virtual shutdown of all economic activities due to Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in a massive loss of livelihoods. Millions of workforces in the unorganised sector has been one of the worst affected sections of society. Further, a significant part of this workforce has reverse migrated from cities to rural areas. In order to address this migrant crisis, Young India,a Odisha based development organisation in partnership with United States Department of State, implemented an awareness campaign “Nua Sakalara Katha” to create awareness on Covid-19 and to facilitate employment opportunities for migrant labours through different govt. schemes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
These radio stations have adopted 81 villages to generate awareness among communities to deliver key messages on quarantine, social distancing, use of masks, proper handwashing and to prevent misinformation.
BHUBANESWAR: Tribal people of some rural pockets in the state do not have exposure to several information sources, but Community Radios try to give updates on Covid-19 issues and sensitize them about the preventive steps to keep the second wave of pandemic at bay.
As many as 13 Community Radio stations have adopted nearby villages to keep them updated about Covid through its campaign ‘Nua Sakalara Katha’ (story of new morning) and help them to adopt the practice of using masks, maintaining social distancing and hand washing. The campaign has received support from US Consulate General Hyderabad and Young India, an NGO.

US Consulate Hyderabad Shifting From Begumpet to Nanakramguda in Gachibowli May 12, 2021, 16:14 IST
The US Consulate General in Hyderabad, which is located at Paigah Palace in Begumpet, is all set to be relocated to a large location in the Financial District at Nanakramguda, near Gachibowli by 2022.
According to some sources, the office was supposed to have moved to a new location this year. But due to the COVID-induced restrictions, the construction of the new building was delayed. Apart from Telangana residents, the US Consulate in Hyderabad also caters to people from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
The spokesperson for the US Consulate General Hyderabad said, While Covid-19 has impacted so much of our work, we have continued with the construction, following extensive health and safety protocols. We anticipate that construction will be completed in mid-2022.
Student Visa Holders Can Enter US If Their Classes Start After August 1 May 05, 2021, 15:43 IST
The United States Consulate General in Hyderabad announced on Tuesday that student visa holders will be able to enter the United States if their classes begin on or after August 1, 2021. However, the embassy will not be able to accept exceptions for F Visa holders whose programmes begin before August 1. The US Consulate stated that if your start date is before August 1, we urge you to contact your respective educational institutions to discuss options.
Earlier on April 30, US President Joe Biden signed a Proclamation suspending most non-immigrant travel to the US by individuals physically present in India, which is now in effect. It does not apply to US citizens, lawful permanent residents, immigrant visa holders, or select other categories of travellers.
