(Photo by Wichan Charoenkiatpakul) All 18 detained protesters have denied charges pressed against them in connection with fresh rallies against the government on Saturday. Thai Lawyers for Human Rights on Sunday posted a Facebook message saying the activists, including Piyarat Toto Chonthep, denied the charges after being informed by police. They were under detention at the Border Patrol Police Region 1 barracks in Thanya Buri district in Pathum Thani. Two of them who were underaged were temporarily released pending an ordered to appear before the Central Juvenile and Family Court later on Sunday.

(Photo by Wichan Charoenkiatpakul) A rally by pro-democracy protesters outside the 1st Infantry Regiment in Bangkok turned violent on Sunday as police fired rubber bullets, water cannon and tear gas at demonstrators trying to approach the barracks. Demonstrators held up shell casings to show that rubber bullets had been fired at them.  There were no initial reports of injuries, but an ambulance was seen driving towards Veterans General Hospital. Riot police decided to use water cannon to break up the rally after some demonstrators removed shipping containers laid out to keep them away from the barracks on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road.

The ruling, which was read out at the Criminal Court, denied their temporary release, saying their offences have tarnished the reputation of the royal institution and the charges against them carry heavy penalties.

A man suspected of producing a deadly ketamine-based drug cocktail has been arrested in Phetchabun after he fled a police hunt in Bangkok, where many users have died after taking k-powdered milk . Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) chief Pol Lt Gen Pakkapong Pongpetra said Amornthep Chalermwat, alias Un Kiwi, was arrested on Sunday at a room with no address in Bung Sam Phan district of Phetchabun, where he was staying with his former prison mate. Investigators were confident the 33-year-old man was a mastermind in the mixing of the illicit drug cocktail, reported to contain ketamine, methamphetamine, heroin and the sedative diazepam.
