Indian journalist and AltNews co-founder, Mohammed Zubair, was arrested on June 27, for a Twitter post police alleged hurt religious sentiment in the country. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and its affiliate the Indian Journalists Union (IJU) condemn the arrest and call for Zubair’s immediate release.
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) Wednesday strongly condemned the re-arrest of Kashmiri journalist Aasif Sultan, saying the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) was being misused to “harass and detain journalists”.
The International Federation of Journalists said Sultan's prolonged detainment and immediate rearrest violates the fundamental rights to freedoms of press and expression enshrined in the Indian constitution.
