DWARKA, INDIA (ANN): Two men in Dwarka, India were arrested for allegedly selling fire extinguishers as oxygen cylinders for Covid-19 patients.
Police identified the suspects as 19-year-old Ashutosh Chauhan and 22-year-old Ayush Kumar, The Indian Express reported on Thursday, April 29. Five fire extinguishers were confiscated by authorities following the arrest.
Chauhan and Kumar allegedly marketed the fire extinguishers to families of people with Covid-19 amid a surge of deaths in the country. Each cylinder was sold for ₹10,000 (RM551).
The fraudulent sales were discovered after one Geeta Arora claimed that the men sold her the fire extinguishers for her relative’s breathing problems.

Her friend’s father died the next day, leaving Ms Arora distraught at the loss and shocked at being cheated at time when the raging pandemic had forced people to rely on the illegal market for medicines and medical oxygen to save loved ones.
She complained to the police, who said they arrested the men on charges of cheating and endangering public safety and seized five more fire extinguishers that they had planned to sell.

NEW DELHI: Two people were arrested here on Thursday for allegedly cheating a woman by selling her a fire extinguisher instead of an oxygen cylinder which she needed for her COVID-19 positive relative, police said.
Ashutosh (19) and Ayush (22), residents of Vikaspuri, were arrested from west Delhi s Uttam Nagar area and five fire extinguishers were seized from them.
They were selling each fire extinguisher as oxygen cylinder for Rs 10,000, police said.
