After capturing their first meet win in four years on Thursday, the Columbus Community boys’ track team did not have to wait long this time to take another victory lap, as the Wildcats reigned supreme in the Sigourney Relays last night.
The Wildcats won their second straight by compiling 94 points that bested the 11 team field including five other area schools. Two events took home gold including Isaac Acosta in the 1600m (4:44) and Mason Hodges in the discus (137’8’’). Kaden Amigon was second in the 100m (11.30) and 200m (23.30) and picked up a third place finish in the long jump (18’4’’). Other second place events included Freddy Vergara in the 3200m (10:46), the 4x100m (45.70), and 4x800m relay (9:26). Other area schools in the standings included Highland sixth with 52 points, Winfield-Mt. Union seventh with 51 points, Sigourney eighth with 39 points, Keota ninth with 37, and WACO 11th with 17. The Ike Ryan Relays in Eddyville featured the Sigourney boys’ track team on Thursday and the Savages finished sixth out of 10 teams.
Sigourney placed sixth in the B division with 53 points while Lynnville-Sully took home the title with 116. Mason Moore continues to dominate the long distance events winning the one mile (4:54) and two mile (10:38). The 4x100m relay finished runner-up (48.17) and Gavin Sereg was second in the 110m hurdles (17.25). Other top performances included Sereg fourth in the high jump (5’6’’), 4x200m relay fourth (1:39), and Karson Weber fourth in the 100m (12.11).

Lisbon hosted their first track meet in program history on Thursday and a few area schools made the unique trip.
The Sigourney girls placed sixth out of nine teams with 62 points and North Cedar took home the team title with 146. Rain Barthelman bested the whole field in the 400m hurdles (1:17) and Kaylee Weber claimed first in the shot put (32’6’’). Courtney Hemsley was third in the 400m (1:08) and the shuttle hurdle was also third (1:17). Highland picked up 56 points to place eighth. The 4x200m relay had the best team finish in second (1:53). Sarah Burton was third in the long jump (15’8.75’’) and 4x100m relay third (53.11).
The Sigourney boys and girls track teams traveled to Lynnville-Sully on Tuesday for the Hawk Coed Relays and both squads placed sixth.
The girls nabbed sixth place out of eight with 63 points while the Hawks won their own meet with 159. Kaylee Weber had another strong day in the field events by placing second in the shot put (33’7’’) and third in the discus (90’11’’). Rain Barthelman had a third place finish in the 400m hurdles (1:20), the shuttle hurdle relay was third (1:22), and Macy Fisch was fifth in the shot put (29’11.5’’).
The Savage boys garnered 76 points for their sixth place team finish and Lynnville-Sully made it a clean sweep with 147.5 points.
