The Sigourney boys and girls track teams traveled to Lynnville-Sully on Tuesday for the Hawk Coed Relays and both squads placed sixth.
The girls nabbed sixth place out of eight with 63 points while the Hawks won their own meet with 159. Kaylee Weber had another strong day in the field events by placing second in the shot put (33’7’’) and third in the discus (90’11’’). Rain Barthelman had a third place finish in the 400m hurdles (1:20), the shuttle hurdle relay was third (1:22), and Macy Fisch was fifth in the shot put (29’11.5’’).
The Savage boys garnered 76 points for their sixth place team finish and Lynnville-Sully made it a clean sweep with 147.5 points. Mason Moore dominated the long distance events by winning both the 1600m (4:58) and 3200m (11:06). Gavin Sereg was the other champ in the high jump clearing 5’10’’. The Sigourney boys basketball team was knocked out of the playoffs Monday night by fellow South Iowa Cedar League foe Lynnville-Sully 72-44. Both teams started hot offensively with the Hawks holding a 21-17 lead after the first eight minutes. Lynnville-Sully used a 13-5 run that spanned the entire second quarter to open a 34-22 lead going into the half. The Hawks won the second half 38-22 over the Savages including a 20-10 margin in the third quarter to pull away for the win. Levi Crawford led Sigourney with 17 points. The Savages end the season with a 9-13 record and say goodbye to seniors Josh Mohr, Gunner Goff, Mason Moore, Brock Halleran, and Colton Schwab.
