Target launches Good & Gather Plant Based

Dive Brief: Target is launching a plant-based line under its Good & Gather private label food and beverage brand, the retailer announced on Tuesday. Good & Gather Plant Based will include more than 30 products across categories like meat alternatives, plant-based dips, spreads and more, with all items priced under $8. Items will hit store shelves and online shopping beginning now through the fall. The new line will expand Good & Gather s small selection of plant-based products, and capitalize on a fast-growing segment for Target. The company said its plant-based assortment has increased fivefold over the past three years.  Dive Insight: Target is building on the early momentum of its Good & Gather brand, which launched in 2019 and is now the company’s largest store line with more than 2,000 products. Last year, it netted more than $2 billion for the retailer.

While private label did not gain market share during the pandemic as some commentators had predicted it might, a few emerging categories such as functional beverages and plant-based meat alternatives bucked the trend, “Guest demand for plant-based offerings is incredibly high and continues to grow. By adding Good & Gather Plant Based to our curated assortment of plant-based offerings, we re giving guests more of what they want and making it easy for them to discover the joy of food every day, ​ said Rick Gomez, executive vice president and chief food and beverage officer at Target.
