University of Georgia senior Emeline McClellan of Good Hope will continue her studies in classics this fall as one of 24 Americans selected as a Gates Cambridge Scholar. The scholarship fully funds postgraduate study and research in any subject at the University of Cambridge in England.
McClellan is UGA’s eighth Gates Cambridge Scholar in the program’s 20-year history. The scholarship, which recognizes intellectually outstanding postgraduate students with a capacity for leadership and a commitment to improving the lives of others, was established by a gift from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Senior Jasmine Jordan Wins Prestigious Gates-Cambridge Scholarship
Michigan State University senior Jasmine Jordan, an Honors College Political Science senior with a minor in African and African American Studies (AAAS), who grew up in Detroit, has been named a Gates-Cambridge Scholar.
Jordan also was a national finalist for the highly competitive Rhodes, Mitchell, and Marshall scholarships.

University of Maryland Senior Named 2021 Gates Cambridge Scholar

University of Maryland senior Veeraj Shah was awarded a 2021 Gates Cambridge Scholarship, which he plans to use toward a Ph.D. in public health and primary care at the University of Cambridge. Shah will graduate this May from UMD with dual degrees in biological sciences with a specialization in neurobiology and physiology and individual studies majoring in health policy and technology. Following his Ph.D., Shah plans to earn his M.D. at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.

The founders
Ameelio founders Uzoma Orchingwa ’22JD, ’22MBA, and Gabriel Saruhashi ’22 have compiled long résumés in their short careers. Orchingwa, a Chicago native who spent part of his childhood in Nigeria, got his BA in philosophy and sociology from Colby College, where he was awarded a Truman Scholarship. He then went to the University of Cambridge as a Gates-Cambridge Scholar, where he earned a master of philosophy in criminology. He was awarded a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship to study at Yale, where he is pursuing a JD from the Law School and an MBA from the School of Management. He spent the last two summers working for law firms in San Francisco and Washington, DC.
