Vail Holidays continues this weekend with free ice skating shows and Astronomy Night on Saturday.
The 2020 Vail Skating Festival’s Exhibition of Elite Skating presented by the Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute. These 15-minute show
Are held outdoors at the Solaris Ice Rink at 5 and 6:00 p.m.
You won’t want to miss these performances on Saturday because it will be the last week that 2018 Olympian and US National Champion Karen Chen will be skating in the festival. IN addition to Chen, International and U.S. National medalists, Camden Pulkinen and Team USA Pair Skaters Winter Deardorff and Mikhail Johnson will skate. The kids will love Alexe Gilles, star of Disney’s World on Ice. She portrays Elsa in the Frozen show and Alexe will perform her Elsa solo from the Disney show.
Seal Beach’s only public elementary school is brightening the holidays for local businesses that have supported the school’s Parent Teacher Association for so many years by giving back to them through a Silent Auction happening this week at www.mcgaughauction.com.
Most years, McGaugh Elementary School’s PTA receives generous donations from small businesses in Seal Beach, Los Alamitos and Long Beach to help raise money for school programs.
But this is not a normal year. After the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the PTA’s biggest annual fundraiser, parent volunteers brainstormed ideas and came up with something that will benefit the school and its supporters in the local community. McGaugh families donated money to purchase gift cards from local businesses and the gift cards are now being auctioned off to raise money for the school.

14-year-old ahmed mohamed saw a massive outpouring of support last month after he was pulled out of class in irving, texas interrogated by police and put in handcuffs because of a homemade clock he took to school to impress his teachers. and among the hundreds of thousands of messages ahmed got on social media was one from president obama who tweeted cool clock, ahmed. want to bring it to the white house? we should inspire more kids like you to like science. it s what makes america great. the clock is still in texas. irving police tell all in no one has picked it up yet. but ahmed himself did make it to the white house tonight, stargazing with nasa scientists and astronauts on the south lawn as part of astronomy night. the president and ahmed did chat briefly in the crowd and ahmed could advance the cause of science by cathy a singularity in cable news. all he has to do now is whip up a joe biden decision countdown clock while he s in town.
