Diamond Bynum and her nephew King Walker went missing nearly six years ago. We re still looking and searching, I m not giving up, said Walker.
Saturday afternoon outside the Gary Police Department, Walker holds on to the belief that the pair are still alive somewhere. This is hardest thing not knowing where your child is, where your grandchild is whether they are alive or not, said Walker.
Community leaders said the case has gone cold because detectives no longer return Walker s calls. The urgency has gone beyond the recognition of what needs to be done., said community activist Rabbi Michael Ben-Yosef.
The FBI arrested Victor Lofton for the "horrific" Gary double murder of Felicia Howard and her daughter DeNisha Howard in 1992, using DNA technology to crack the case that had gone unsolved nearly 30 yearas.
The boy s grandmother said he is in stable condition.
Police said they responded to the 1700-block of East 7th Avenue at about 2:45 a.m. for a report of a child shot.
After they arrived, they were told that the boy had been shot three times. He was then airlifted to Comer Children s Hospital for treatment and his condition is not known. I heard a gunshot, which woke me up. Then, I heard the babies crying, so I really didn t know what was going on, said Lashon Verge, neighbor. I pray to god that he be okay and that he just pulls through everything because I m sure he was really scared, Verge said.
