(KUTV) — Utah Department of Veterans & Military Affairs Executive Director Gary Harter and Utah National Guard, Adjutant General, Major General Michael J. Turley hosted a Memorial Day Commemorative Event at the Utah Capitol. The event is put on every year on Memorial Day when the state recognizes the nearly 3,000 Utahns who died in conflicts around the world. This year, the state also honored those who passed away due to the COVID-19 pandemic and were unable to receive final honors recognizing their service to the country. The names of known Veterans who passed away since March 2020 (when Utah declared a state of emergency due to COVID-19) were on display.
