WASHINGTON – The owners of Stewart’s Shops, big donors to U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, have decided to pause all political contributions for further review after pressure from individuals calling and threatening on social media to boycott the chain over their support for the congresswoman.
Stewart’s started logging Twitter and Facebook comments denouncing the contributions to Stefanik from Stewart’s President Gary Dake and his family on Monday, emails obtained by the Albany Times Union show.

Hours after violent insurrectionists were finally cleared from the Capitol on January 6th, 147 Republican members of Congress voted to object to the electoral college victory of President-elect Joe Biden, undeterred in their allegiance to President Donald Trump, who had incited the riots.
For the four New York representatives who voted against certifying the election results Republicans Nicole Mallotakis, Lee Zeldin, Chris Jacobs, and Elise Stefanik their decision may come with financial costs, as some top donors have either backed away from their candidates, halted political donations altogether, or declined to issue any statement of support.

Stewart s Shops Wraps Up $45M in Investments in 2020
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. The end of the month brings Stewart s Shop s five-year store investment plan to an end, but the convenience retailer s building initiative will not slow down in 2021.
In all, Stewart s Shops invested $45 million in 17 new or rebuilt stores in 2020, the last year of its $245-million, five-year program, according to the Times Union.
The company had slated $75 million in new builds and rebuilds this year to mark its 75th anniversary; however, the COVID-19 pandemic altered those plans, President Gary Dake told the news outlet. We look forward to growth in 2021 and thank all of our partners for their dedication and hard work during these unprecedented times, Dake said.
