According to law, the Board of Commissioners was required to choose an interim commissioner. When they were unable to agree, the selection was left to the board chair.
On April 5, BOC Chair Carlotta Harrell appointed Greg Cannon to serve as the temporary District 3 representative.
Qualifying dates are expected to be released by Henry County Elections and Registration next week.

COVID-19 has taken the lives of more than 565,000 Americans and counting.
Those we ve lost come from all backgrounds and include the very people first responders and medical staff who have been working on the front lines. But the virus has also highlighted the disparities in the U.S. taking a disproportionate toll on communities of color, the elderly and the poor.
McDONOUGH â Greg Cannon has been sworn in to represent District 3 on the Henry County Board of Commissioners.
Cannon was appointed to the seat by board Chair Carlotta Harrell Monday morning following the signing of Senate Bill 306 Friday afternoon.
The seat became vacant when Commissioner Gary Barham, a Republican, died on March 2.
The bill, a follow up to Senate Bill 22, requires the board chair to appoint an interim successor from a list of nominees supplied by the former commissionerâs political party, when the board as a whole fails to make an appointment.
SB 22 calls for the BOC to fill the seat within 14 days of vacancy. The board was given the opportunity to choose either Greg Cannon, Robert Hudgins or Terrell Tyson on March 16. They did not appoint a successor, thereby breaking the law.
