Board of Commissioners special election qualifying fee set

The Henry County Board of Commissioners approved the $1,050 fee during Tuesday’s meeting.
The special election will be held to give voters in District 3 the opportunity to elect a permanent successor. The seat opened on March 2 when Commissioner Gary Barham died from COVID-19.
According to law, the Board of Commissioners was required to choose an interim commissioner. When they were unable to agree, the selection was left to the board chair.
On April 5, BOC Chair Carlotta Harrell appointed Greg Cannon to serve as the temporary District 3 representative.
Qualifying dates are expected to be released by Henry County Elections and Registration next week.
