Covid-19 cases shoot up by 1,179 in Ireland as 91 people fight virus in hospital and 22 in ICU

COVID-19 cases in Ireland have risen by 1,179 today, the Department of Health has confirmed.
A total of 91 people are fighting the virus in hospital of which 22 are receiving treatment in ICU.

DUBLIN Airport is set for its busiest week in almost a year as passengers get ready to take to the skies with their new Covid passports.
Some 22,500 people will pass through today, rising to just under 24,000 on Friday as around 150,000 come and go with the EU Digital Covid Certificates which go live today.

IRELAND could face another surge of Covid-19 cases that could slow down the reopening of the country if there is too much socialising indoors, Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has warned.
It comes as the HSE are set to smash vaccination records this week by administering up to 240,000 doses as the roll out finally steps up a gear.
