Armory project moves forward amid tight construction market

WOONSOCKET – A New Hampshire-based developer is moving forward with his plans to turn the former Woonsocket Armory into an arts center, though city officials are split on how many incentives to offer the project.
Brian Thibeault, who also owns the Pawtucket Armory Arts Center and The Times building in Pawtucket, told The Breeze he has closed on the purchase of the South Main Street property from Saint James Baptist Church. Over the past year, he said, he’s done minor work to protect the building from further water damage.

WOONSOCKET – A local business that started as a holiday pop-up last November has now become the latest addition to Main Street’s storefronts.
Geri’s Bluffing Boutique, a clothing and home décor boutique offering imported and locally made African design, has a new location at 285 Main St. Owner Geraldine Barclay-King, a city resident, said it gives her a sense of pride to be able to give back in the heart of Woonsocket.

WOONSOCKET – Jennifer Jolicoeur, founder of Athena’s Home Novelties, was busy celebrating the company’s 23rd anniversary at its headquarters on Winter Street last Thursday, April 1, when she was interrupted by a knock on the door.
What she thought at first was a hired marching band in orange turned out to be the entire Autumnfest Steering Committee arriving with the news she’d been selected as the grand marshal of this year’s Autumnfest parade.
