Amid the surge of COVID-19 cases across the country, devotees took a holy dip at the Har Ki Pauri ghat in Uttarakhand s Haridwar on the occasion of the third shahi snan in Kumbh on Wednesday. The first bath was held on March 11 on the occasion of Mahashivratri, while the second took place on April 12. According to the schedule of major events, four Shahi Snan and nine Ganga Snan will take place at Haridwar this year.

HARIDWAR: Many devotees who arrived here on Thursday for the Kumbh Mela did not carry their coronavirus report, according to an inspection conducted by Garhwal Commissioner Ravinath Raman at the local railway station.
Station Superintendent M K Singh told him that around 10,000 pilgrims are arriving every day for the Kumbh that started on Thursday.
The Garhwal Commissioner said the railway authorities have been to to let the devotees proceed to the Mela area only after they produce their negative RT-PCR report.

Kumbh Mela 2021: Govt issues guidelines, makes medical certificate mandatory for attendees
The government has issued guidelines for the forthcoming Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. As per the guidelines, it is mandatory for the attendees to obtain a medical certificate to be able to participate in the event. All devotees desirous of attending the mela should register with Uttarakhand Govt & obtain a compulsory medical certificate from Community Health Centre/District hospital/Medical college in their State, the Centre said in its guidelines on Sunday.Â
Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand government has authorised the Garhwal Commissioner and the Kumbh Mela official to allocate works up to worth Rs 5 crore and Rs 2 crore respectively to speed up preparations for the Kymbh Mela.Â
