Amid worsening Covid-19 situation in the country, the Niranjani Akhada has announced to curtail the ongoing Kumbh Mela at Haridwar. The religious congregation has emerged as a Covid-19 hotspot where millions are flocking to participate in the event.Â
The Niranjani Akhada on Thursday said that the Kumbh Mela will end on Saturday (April 17), almost two weeks before from the schedule. The event kicked-off on April 1 and was slated for culmination on April 30.
Notably, after several seers tested positive for Covid-19 and many showing symptoms, Ravindra Puri, secretary, Niranjani Akhada, said that the event will conclude on Saturday. After reviewing the current Covid-19 situation in our camps where several seers and devotees have tested positive, the Akhara has decided to culminate Kumbh Mela on April 17.

मुख्यमंत्री त्रिवेंद्र सिंह रावत ने कहा कि हरिद्वार कुंभ मेले को लेकर साधु संतों की ओर से प्रदेश सरकार को पूरा सहयोग मिल रहा है। उनसे बातचीत चल रही है। जल्द सरकार कुंभ मेले की एसओपी (स्टैंडर्ड ऑपरेटिंग प्रोसीजर यानी मानक प्रचालन प्रक्रिया) जारी करेगी।

Uttarakhand govt issues guidelines for Kumbh Mela
Uttarakhand government on Monday issued Covid-19 guidelines for devotees visiting Haridwar s Kumbh Mela. According to the statement, devotees to be allowed at Kumbh Mela only after producing COVID negative RT-PCR report, issued not later than 72 hrs.
Besides, they ll also have to download the Aarogya Setu app.Â
Meanwhile, the authorities said that people over 65 yrs of age, the ailing, pregnant women, children below 10 years of age advised not to come.
Earlier on Sunday, the state government had made it mandatory for the attendees to obtain a medical certificate to be able to participate in the event.Â

The government has issued guidelines for the forthcoming Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. As per the guidelines, it is mandatory for the attendees to obtain a medical certificate to be able to participate in the event. All devotees desirous of attending the mela should register with Uttarakhand Govt & obtain a compulsory medical certificate from Community Health Centre/District hospital/Medical college in their State, the Centre said in its guidelines on Sunday.Â
Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand government has authorised the Garhwal Commissioner and the Kumbh Mela official to allocate works up to worth Rs 5 crore and Rs 2 crore respectively to speed up preparations for the Kymbh Mela.Â
