it doesn t fit the m.o. of the suicide bombings of the past. reporter: in the past you have the suicide bomber and you could quickly identify the person even if there wasn t an immediate responsibility claim. in the past you had quick statements come out either from hamas or islamic jihad or other militants taking responsibility for the attack. this does not have the markings of a traditional suicide bombing, rather of a palestinian attack as we used to see in the past. at the moment there s confusion, it s been seven years since this bombing in jerusalem, a real feeling in the city over the last few years they had sort of moved beyond these attacks, because of the new separation barrier built between the west bank and israel because the increased security cooperation between israel and the palestinians. while there hasn t been any link directly, keep in mind this attack comes amid a sharp escalation in tensions between israel and hamas and the gaza strip with rockets falli
are dialing back research and development of new medicines because they can t afford or they re unwilling to take the risk of the cost of bringing one new drug to market can be more than $1 billion. most companies are spending much more on selling the product than developing new ones. should the government, yeah, should the government be in the business of helping the giant drug companies and how will this new investment affect future trips to the pharmacy? gardner harris joins us to talk about this. gardner, okay, the project is being run by the national institutes of health, which traditionally, everybody knows, normally focused on research. explain how this idea for the new medicine development center came about. reporter: well, it s come about because the director of the nih is francis collins, in charge of the human genome project, and when he was in charge of it he said that the human genome product was the most important thing ever done by humans because he predicted it would
some of the most advanced medicines. many of the advanced medicines may be out of reach of some of these people who are getting access to health care. i mean, the new model for the pharmaceutical industry is of course avastin, the most well-known new kind of drug, this very high-tech biotechnology drug that costs $88,000 per year and will give you if you suffer from a few different cancers two extra months of life. there is very sort of these two tracks are very contradictory because the drugs that are coming out of the discovery pipeline are not affordable by many of these insurance products that are going to be sold through health care reform. quickly, before we go, i want to point out health and human services secretary kathleen sebelius expects this center to be open by october. we ll see how that approaches. gardner harris, thanks for
rahm announced for a stay on the ruling so his name can get printed on the ballot as the elections february 22nd, printing begins in a week. so they want to make sure that somehow his name still gets printed on the ballot and if the court rules, they figure out a way to get it off. so it certainly surprised the emanuel campaign. they are at this point now hopeful the illinois supreme court overturns it. we ll see. it s a seven-person court and this was an interesting ruling when you read through it. fair statement to say it s an uphill battle in chicago. reporter: very much in flux. goes through this issue of whether residency means actually having to live within the city versus just keeping a resident and having properties ownership, and that s where in the intent, you know, 4 was here on the business of the united states when he was here and trying to determine intent and all of these things and the appellate court appeared to rule, i m not a lawyer, but talking with my
