We have issued a first alert for this morning because of heavy rain and the potential for flash flooding in parts of our area today. Lets get started with meteorologist bill henley and the nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather. Bill . Pamela, were tracking one shower, one area of thunderstorms. Its moving through new jersey. This is not why weve issued a first alert. The first alert is for the heavy rainfall thats possible later today. This storm is moving offshore. Its moving past barnegat right now. It will clear out. Lots of steaminess in the air. Weve seen heavy rainfall over the last couple days in the Lehigh Valley and the suburbs. This is where theres a storm threat for later today and why weve issued a first alert. The chance of storms will be around for most of the area as temperatures climb into the 80s for philadelphia, the suburbs and the Lehigh Valley. Delaware could see those as well with
Here with a forecast for today and into the rest of the week. Hi, glenn. Hey, katy. Not everybody is going to get thunderstorms today, but those that do have the potential for some very heavy rain. And thats why we have a first alert out for the areas that had the most rain over the weekend. P. A. Suburbs, lehigh valley, Mercer County new jersey, some parts of that county had five to six inches of rain saturday night. The first alert is through this evening for the thunderstorms and the potential for some localized flash flooding. Right now, we have a few showers down in extreme south jersey. Not moving very fast. Not especially heavy. But its a sign that we dont have much wind in the atmosphere to move these storms along. So theyre not going to be moving very quickly this afternoon when they develop. Just a couple of isolated ones way out by burkes county. The temperature only going up slowly because of all the cloud cover. Thats delaying the development of these thunderstorms. It doe
Well get sunshine later today. There is still a chance of a daytime shower but right now were looking at dry conditions in the area. The showers are finally taking a break the temperatures have cooled down into the 70s this morning. Low 70s in delaware, south jersey, philadelphia 73 degrees and low 70s for the lehigh valley. And the suburbs. We will warm into the very low 80s this afternoon, clouds will restrict the warmup this morning and then temperatures will start to climb as we break through those clouds this afternoon. As far as showers and thunderstorms, pretty quiet right now. Isolated showers moving north of Atlantic City, heading towards the shore. The fog will be disappearing as the temperatures climb.
