Punch Newspapers Sections Ted Odogwu and Tukur Muntari  The Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress on Tuesday said it had opened dialogue channel between striking tricycle riders and the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) over the imposition of daily payment of N100 levy on the operators. The tricycle operators on Monday embarked on a warning strike to protest against the daily levy by the state government. At a news conference, the state NLC Chairman, Kabiru Minjibir, described the situation as disturbing, saying many residents were forced to walk to their respective destinations, seek an alternative means of transport or remain at home.

Reduce number of tricycles operating in Kano - State Assembly tells Ganduje

Worried by the numbers of Tricycles operating on Kano routes, the State Assembly has urged Governor Umar Ganduje to regulate their activities by denying them further registrations. The Assembly cautioned the State-Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) against further registration of Tricycles who are not captured on their database as those on the ground are already too many. The House made the call on Tuesday following a motion of urgent public importance presented by the member, representing (APC Kunchi/Tsanyawa constituency) Garba Ya’u-Gwarmai. The Managing Director of KAROTA, Baffa Dan’agundi disclosed that no fewer than 65,000 tricyclists so far registered with the agency.
