Assam: Hagrama Mohilary reaches out, BJP says no | Guwahati News

Hagrama Mohilary GUWAHATI: Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) chief Hagrama Mohilary, in a last-ditch effort to stay in power, appealed to BJP, its alliance partner in the Assam government, to extend support to his party to form the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), following a fractured mandate in the council elections. BJP, however, turned down the request. After BPF emerged as the single-largest party in the just-concluded BTC poll results, Hagrama said he called BJP’s key strategist and minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday morning. In a news conference in Kokrajhar he said it was going to be a BJP-BPF administration in BTC. However, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has already announced that United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) chief Pramod Boro was going to be the next BTC chief with support from BJP and Naba Kumar Sarania’s Gana Surakha Party (GSP).
