The Fairfield City Council met last night for their first March meeting. Alderman unanimously passed an ordinance raising the monthly yard waste fee to $10.00. The raise will result in the Street & Bridge Dept. picking up couches, mattresses, chairs, etc. that would previously not be picked up and may sit by the street for an extended period of time. The matter was discussed at length and in the end it was determined that this would be the best avenue to clean up the city. No electronics, paint or building materials will be picked up. During the Public Comment portion of the meeting, Fairfield resident Sheryl Eckleberry voiced her opposition to the fee increase. The council unanimously approved a $10,000 expenditure for the annual Fireworks Display. The Recreation Fund will provide an additional $5,000 for the display. A tentative date for the fireworks was set for July 1, with a final date to be approved at a later meeting. Aldermen approved entering into an Engineering Agreement
