Abingdon man sentenced 77 months in federal prison for firearm offenses

An Abingdon man was sentenced to 77 months in federal prison for possession of a sawed-off shotgun and for being a felon in possession of a firearm. 44-year-old Micah D. Mowen was sentenced on Wednesday, April 26, by Chief U.S. District Judge Sara L. Darrow to prison, which will be followed by three years of supervised release. At the sentencing hearing in front of Chief Judge Darrow, the government proffered evidence that in August 2019, deputies from the McDonough County Sheriff's Office found Mowen sleeping in a truck in an unauthorized area. Upon further investigation, they found a stolen handgun and a sawed-off shotgun in the truck. Mowen initially fled but was quickly apprehended. Mowen has been in the custody of the United States Marshal since his federal arrest in August 2020. Illinois House adopts resolution honoring Knox County Deputy Nick Weist

Legislation to designate a section of U.S. Route 150 from Galesburg to Alpha as the "Deputy Sheriff Nick Weist Memorial Highway" was approved by the Illinois House of Representatives. Knox County Deputy Weist gave his life on April 29, 2022, when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a fleeing suspect. Rep. Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) spoke on the floor of the Illinois House on House Joint Resolution 17. On April 29, 2022, Deputy Sheriff Nick Weist was struck and killed by a vehicle as he deployed spike strips during a vehicle pursuit of an armed subject. Officers from the Galesburg Police Department had responded to a call involving an armed subject at a local gas station at about 8 a.m. The man fled in a vehicle, and the Galesburg officers initiated a pursuit. Galesburg woman arrested on Knox County warrant for Delivery of Methamphetamine

Knox County, Ill.- Authorities have announced the arrest of a Galesburg, Illinois woman on a Knox County warrant for Delivery of Methamphetamine. According to a new release, on Wednesday, March 14th, Detectives with the Knox County Sheriff's Office, Galesburg Police Department, Monmouth Police Department, and the FBI TOCC West Task Force responded to 380 West First Street in Galesburg. Once there, Authorities located 40-year-old Amy Gerstenberger of Galesburg. Gertensberger was arrested on a Knox County warrant for Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine. Through further investigation, detectives located about 11 grams of Methamphetamine and baggies used to package meth amphetamine for resale. Gertensberger was also charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver.
