A 61-year-old Galesburg man was sentenced to 108 months in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine. Daniel Villareal Jr. was sentenced this week to a nine-year prison term, followed by three years of supervised release. At the sentencing hearing in front of United States District Judge James E. Shadid, the government presented evidence that Villarreal previously had received multiple deliveries of methamphetamine and had distributed that methamphetamine in and around Galesburg. On the date Villarreal was arrested, police located approximately 13 pounds of methamphetamine in his apartment. Villarreal pleaded guilty to the charge in October 2022 and has been in custody since his arrest in January 2022. The Galesburg Police Department; Knox County Sheriff's Office; Macomb Police Department; and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Springfield Field Office, investigated this case, with the assistance of the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Galesburg Police Department responded to another slew of reports of vehicles getting entered and burglarized. Yesterday afternoon, police responded to the 900 block of North Cherry Street after a 56-year-old woman reported her 2016 Honda Accord was rummaged through. In the 1900 block of Patterson Drive, a 37-year-old man's 2020 Dodge Durango was rummaged through. A 26-year-old woman's 2021 Kia Forte was also entered in the 1900 block of Patterson Drive. Someone attempted to start the Kia - the ignition was damaged, and a screwdriver was left sticking out of it. In the 2700 block of Costa Drive, a 59-year-old man's 2016 Nissan Frontier was entered and all the doors were left open. In the 2100 block of Windish Drive, a 52-year-old woman reported a 2016 Kia Forte was rummaged through and thieves made off with flash drives of music and a key fob.
