Editorial: Hiding history is no way to teach it

The Gainesville Sun Editorial Board There is a meme going around social media with a message that boils down to this: Studying history will sometimes make you feel uncomfortable. And if it doesn’t, you probably aren’t studying history. Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran and Gov. Ron DeSantis have a different view of the way history should be studied in Florida’s public-school classrooms. They want to scrub history lessons of uncomfortable facts and punish teachers who don t conform to their narrow view of history.  Earlier this month Corcoran bashed Florida’s teachers in a speech at Hillsdale College, a conservative Christian college in Michigan.
