Sydney councils have embarked on an outdoor gym building frenzy with dozens of fitness stations installed across the city, but there are concerns the unmonitored facilities could injure newcomers.
Luke Del Vecchio, a lecturer in sport and exercise science at Southern Cross University, said outdoor gyms may encourage older adults and women to exercise but there was no clear consensus among researchers and the benefits were limited without guidance on how to use the equipment properly.
