A man has pleaded guilty in relation to the shooting death of another male in a north Laredo neighborhood in 2017, according to court documents.
The District Attorney’s Office said on Friday that they secured a guilty plea in its case against Maurice Jerome Holmes, 41. He pleaded guilty to murder before 341st District Judge Beckie Palomo on Thursday.
Holmes will serve 40 years in prison. This case was prosecuted by Elizabeth Castillo, an assistant district attorney with the Border Prosecution Unit.
The case unfolded on Nov. 2, 2017, when Laredo police officers responded to a shooting at about 2:51 p.m. in the 300 block of International Boulevard. Responding officers learned that a man, Gabriel Diaz, 25, had been shot six times and that another male was seen running toward International Boulevard.

Nearly 400 Oklahoma National Guard members on ground in Washington D.C. are expected to return to the Sooner State soon following the successful inauguration of President Joe Biden.
“Ultimately, when we take our oath, it is to defend the constitution, and that’s what we’re doing here,” Oklahoma Army National Guard Lt. Tomas Meget said. “We’re ensuring there’s a peaceful transfer of power, which is one of the fundamental aspects of why we have been successful as a nation.”
Many of the Oklahomans now in D.C. have served in the Ukraine, hurricane disaster zones and under civil unrest.
