傘を作るのは古内清司さん（68）＝同市東原町1丁目。昭和初期には100軒以上もあった山形和傘の伝統を伝える唯一の職人となった。ただ3年前に後継者として横山純子さん（54）＝同市旅篭町1丁目＝が入門。同市の伝統工芸産業修行者支援給付金事業にも認定され、現在は二人三脚で山形の伝統の技を守っている。
天日干しは竹の骨組みに和紙を貼り、その上に塗った油を1週間ほど乾燥させる工程。横山さんは「和傘作りは円形に紙を張るところなど、全てが難しい」、古内さんは「言葉で伝えられないのが伝統工芸。熱心に手伝ってもらい助かる」と語る。6、7月は山形花笠まつりで使われる「踊り傘」の注文も入り、今が繁忙期。古内さんの傘が祭りで勢いよく回される日も近い。 記事・写真などの無断転載を禁じ�
