It will also consider a $438,000 proposal submitted by Dillon Consulting for engineering services at Fundy Quay. Also on the agenda is a public hearing to discuss fee changes under the city’s zoning and heritage conservation area bylaws. The changes are expected to generate an extra $17,000 in revenue for the city each year.

Busy Night Coming For Saint John Council

The Saint John Common Council chambers. (Image: Brad Perry) It is gearing up to be a busy Monday night at Saint John Common Council with a number of big items on the agenda. Council will consider an updated capital budget which includes millions in funding to redevelop Fundy Quay, also known as the former Coast Guard site. Last week, the provincial and federal governments announced a combined $15 million toward the redevelopment. The city’s contribution is just over $9 million. The funding will go towards necessary infrastructure work to make the site development-ready. This includes contaminated soil remediation, site re-grading and seawall refurbishments at the site, along with the redesign of Loyalist Plaza and the extension of Harbour Passage around Fundy Quay.

Fundy Quay Funding Expected Friday

It has been just over a year since council Local developer Dr. David Elias, who is also part of Friday’s announcement, plans to build a $250-million multi-use development featuring commercial and residential spaces. But before construction can begin on the much-anticipated project, the city must deliver a “development ready” site. On Thursday evening, the city’s finance committee endorsed an updated 2021 capital budget, which included the addition of several projects to advance the Fundy Quay redevelopment. The projects include contaminated soil remediation, site re-grading and seawall refurbishments at the site, along with the redesign of Loyalist Plaza and the extension of Harbour Passage around Fundy Quay.
