It's just trying to re-create the Charles Woodson photo but with a salmon. [Patrick Barron] There are still a few spots left for Open Sky Expeditions' trip to Katmai National Park in Alaska! Sign up and I will show you how to take photos like the one above. I am partnering with Open Sky Expeditions, a team of travel experts that specialize in small-group photography journeys & expeditions to compelling destinations all around the world. They’re not just experts at what they do (and photographers themselves); Open Sky is also co-run by Ann Arbor native, diehard Wolverine, and Michigan grad, Temu Nana (LSA ’03). Next summer from August 12-20, 2024 I’ll be joining Temu & an expert bear guide on an expedition to one of my favorite places in the world: Katmai National Park, Alaska. There, amidst stunning landscapes only accessi

In years past I've had to wait several hours for easy egress from the city but not this time. Sure, the game had been over for well over an hour, but the city was so quiet aside from the occasional group of students on their way to a house party and some marching band members going home. This has been the case for every game this season. After the Nebraska game, I accidentally turned on a Nebraska football radio channel where folks of all stages of sports grief were calling in. Meanwhile the city resumed business as if it was a Tuesday afternoon. In Minneapolis, the crowds were less rowdy after the game than during a hockey game (which is actually just Minnesota being on-brand). Rock meet bottom [Patrick Barron]I've never attended a

I'm running out of unique and clever things to write about here, but there's always at least one gimmick in these games, so let's spin the roulette wheel and see what it ends up on: RAIN GAME Oh. We were overdue for a weather game [Patrick Barron]Not even an apocalyptic rain game like 2019 Notre Dame. That game was an experience that was awful enough to be memorable. But given the results, I suppose it was fun bad? I'll never forget getting dropped off at the airport immediately after that one and the third shift TSA guy took one look at me and my rain soaked everything and asked ".you came from the game didn't you?" Turns out wet clothes set off everything in the body scan machine. No, this game endured a generic drizzle that you don't quite notice until you get back to t

Would've been cooler if they wrote this on their backs [Bryan Fuller]I mean not just the corporeal form of Jim Harbaugh. He'll tell you he never really left. He was at practice with the team these last four weeks, available for interviews, etc. Maybe he didn't even need to be there. When your friend in the office says they could've coached Michigan to 3-0 to start this season, they were probably right. But the ship's captain is back. "Jim's Back" isn't just a physical manifestation, it's a vibe. A chaotic, hard-working, dorky, vibe that sums up where this program is at. You know what I'm talking about. He may not be as loud as his 2015 self, the one that wanted to suit up or at least meet the opposing coach in open-field combat if both partie

It was a beautiful little gesture that took a seven year old to remind us. A friend that I tailgate with brings an extra sharpie just in case anyone would like to draw their own smiley face for the game. After all, it's just sports, right? At the UNLV game, for JJ, it was about more than just sports. Rest in Peace, Ryan Keeler [Patrick Barron]Yesterday, JJ McCarthy replaced his signature smiley face with something more powerful, the number 47 to honor his childhood friend, Ryan Keeler. Ryan died of arrhythmia this past February at the age of 20. JJ and Ryan played football in high school together and Ryan would go on to commit to Rutgers and eventually transfer to UNLV for the 2023 season. Saturday was supposed to be a fun reuni
