Prodigal Son, it was only a matter of time before Malcolm Bright tracked down Friar Pete, who escaped from the psychiatric hospital with fellow inmates Martin Whitly and Hector. Believe it or not, Friar Peteâs final scene is the reason his death was actually a blessing, at least according to Christian Borle who portrayed the manic murderer on the drama series.
In his final moments, Friar Pete had a showdown with Malcolm Bright at a bowling alley. As Bright made his way onto the lanes, Friar Pete was merely just enjoying himself, as an escapee does. When confronted by Bright, Friar Pete threw a bowling ball at him, which Bright was thankfully able to dodge before Pete pointed a gun at him. However, Pete was fatally shot by U.S. Marshal Emily Ruiz, who just recently boarded the case and counted on Bright to lead her right to his father. Christian Borle‘s final day on the set of
Prodigal Son involved a game of bowling and the sudden demise of his character, Friar Pete. But only one of those moments was actually fun to film and it wasn’t the bowling.

“I’m going to be honest,” Borle tells TVLine with a sigh. “I got to bowl [on set]. There was only one set-up. And I’m a pretty good bowler. I average about… 135? 140? Which isn’t terrible! There’s a few strikes and a couple of spares in there.
Friar Pete was such a fun character.
Christian Borle:Â It was a big swing. [

Sadly though, his time has come to an end. So how much did you know about the character when you signed on? Did you know heâd be part of the escape and eventually killed off?
I did not. And of course, when youâre having so much fun, you want it to go on forever, so I was hoping â in the first draft, he got shot in the heart, then the second draft, they change it to the torso, which I thought meant maybe they have more plans for Friar Pete. And then in the third draft, he gets shot in the head. So, âWell, itâs been a nice ride.â I think once they started seeing the ludicrousness with which I was playing the part, they just kept writing more and more absurd things for me to do, which of course is what you want as an actor.
