James “Jim” Arthur Klassen, 88, of Babbitt died Saturday, January 7, 2023 at his home with his family by his side. Jim was born on April 7, 1934 in Plainview to Theodore and Margaret (Costello) Klassen. He was raised on the family farm in Plainview. After graduating high school, Jim entered the United States Navy and served six years from 1952 - 1958. During his years of service, Jim and Phyllis “Pat” Tschakert got married on January 26, 1957 in Chula Vista, CA. After leaving the service in 1958, Jim and Pat moved to the Dover-Plainview area and started their new lives together. Following this, Jim and Pat adopted three children over three years and began the crazy adventure of parenthood. Jim eventually went on to begin a career with American Family Insurance, working as an agent in Plainview. In 1971, Jim and the family moved to Minot, ND where he worked as a district manager. Set for release on November 18th is the Beach Boys' latest era encompassing box set, titled, Sail On Sailor - 1972. The package follows last year's critically acclaimed Feel Flows collection and will be available as a six-CD Super Deluxe Edition along with a five-LP, seven-inch EP vinyl box set. The box includes a 12.5-inch-by-10-inch hardback book featuring liner notes and rare and previously-unseen photos. The five-LP set includes a reproduction of the original Holland promotional book telling the story of the making of the album and four collectable lithographs. Sail On Sailor - 1972 will also be available digitally and in abbreviated vinyl and CD versions. The collection includes remastered versions of the band's 1972 album, Carl And The Passions - "So Tough" and the following year's Holland. It was 45 years ago today (August 22nd, 1977) that Beach Boys co-founder Dennis Wilson released his solo album, Pacific Ocean Blue. The set, which was the first solo collection to be released by one of the group's original members, peaked at Number 96 on the Billboard 200 albums chart during its 12-week-run. The album has gone on to become a cult classic and influenced a whole new generation of record makers, and tapped into many of the same emotions as his older brother Brian Wilson did with 1966's Pet Sounds albeit in a completely different genre, voice, and musical palette. Back in June 2008 the deluxe reissue of Pacific Ocean Blue and its unreleased 1978 follow-up, Bambu which was issued to unanimous critical acclaim earned the nod for "Best Reissue" from Rolling Stone, Mojo, and Uncut magazines.
