DENNIS – For advocates of veterans, it was a long road from concept in 2016 to the grand opening Friday of a five-bedroom house for veterans who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes.
“What we’re doing is we’re basically trying to pay back those that served our country and, in doing so, served us,” said Joseph Taylor, executive director of the Cape and Islands Veterans Outreach Center in Hyannis, which oversees the home.
The house “is a way to pay them back for what they did. When we were in tough times, they stepped up and raised their hands,” Taylor added.
