Canyon Country Brush Fire Under Investigation As Possible Arson A Canyon Country brush fire that broke out early Tuesday morning is under investigation as possible arson, officials said. The fire was reported at about 4 a.m. Tuesday near the southbound 14 Freeway at Via Princessa in Canyon Country, according to Franklin Lopez, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “We had a working fire,” Lopez said, adding no structures were threatened. After about 90 minutes, firefighters called forward progress stopped on the fire at about five acres, according to Lopez Once firefighters achieved a full handle on the blaze, the size was determined to be slightly increased at just under six acres, Lopez said.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to reports of a brush fire near the southbound side of State Route 14, south of Agua Dulce Canyon Road, just after noon, according to Supervisor Leslie Lua. Firefighters on the scene reported a half-acre blaze upon their initial arrival, moving uphill in southwest winds of about 20 mph, Lua said. By 12:50 p.m., the fire had grown to 4 acres. “Quebec 2 is dipping out of Castaic Lake,” she added, referring to the Super Scooper, a water-dropping aircraft. The fire was reportedly started by a vehicle fire spreading from the freeway to nearby brush, according to Franklin Lopez, a spokesman for the Fire Department.

Sheriff’s Department Bus Catches On Fire In Newhall Pass, Inmates Evacuated A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) bus has caught fire in the Newhall Pass Wednesday afternoon, prompting the evacuation of inmates on board, officials said. The vehicle fire was first reported at about 3:35 p.m. Wednesday on the northbound 5 Freeway south of Calgrove Boulevard, according to Franklin Lopez with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “It came in as a Sheriff’s bus on fire,” Lopez said. Upon arrival, the fire was extinguished, according to Lopez. An estimated 15 inmates were evacuated from the bus, according to Fire officials.

Newhall Crash Involving Structure Results In No Injuries A Newhall crash which involved a vehicle driving into a building Wednesday morning resulted in no injuries, officials said. Around 8:30 a.m. first responders received reports of a traffic collision near Lyons and Newhall Avenues in the City of Newhall, said Franklin Lopez, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “The call came in as a two vehicle traffic collision and one hit a wall,” Lopez said. As a result of the crash, no injuries were reported, according to Fire officials. The cause of the crash is unknown as of 9 a.m. Wednesday.

When the suspect set the car seats down, the deputies apprehended the suspect, according to officials. Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were called to the scene after deputies reportedly tased the suspect, according to Franklin Lopez, a spokesperson for the Fire Department.
