The Attorney General’s Office has directed the police to prosecute all persons who invaded the Ochiso Police Station in the Central Region and physically assaulted the policeman on duty.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr James Oppong Boanu, announced this to police personnel during a working visit to the Central Region on Friday, February 26, 2021.
The IGP also made it clear to the personnel that so long as they do the right thing, the police administration is ever ready to support them.
This statement boosted the moral of the men present who in unison beat their chests in approval of the stance that had been taken by the Chief Constable.
Prosecute DCE, others who assaulted me – Policeman seeks justice
Grand Corporal Frank Mensah, the Police Officer who was allegedly beaten by the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel Ransford Kwesi Nyarko, at Ajumako Ocheso is demanding justice.
The law enforcement officer is suffering from pains in his spinal cord and the entire body which has left him unable to sleep at night.
“I can’t sit down for more than one hour due to my situation so I want Justice. Nobody is above the law and so I expect the DCE and his thugs who assaulted me to face the law just as any other Ghanaian who has violated the law will be made to do. They must be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent for others not to put the law into their own hands,” G/Cpl Frank Mensah told Kasapa News Yaw Bagyan.
Kwamena Duncan condemns DCE’s behaviour
Mr Kwamena Duncan, the Central Regional Minister, has condemned the action of Mr Ransford Nyarko, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, who led some thugs to assault a police officer at Ochiso, near Ajumako. He said the DCE’s behaviour was condemnable, unacceptable and unbecoming of a leader who was supposed to be chairman of the District Security Committee (DISEC). In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Duncan said from his briefings, Mr Nyarko did not directly assault the police officer but his presence at the station with the alleged thugs gave the culprits the power to take the law into their own hands.
