OLD SAYBROOK An outspoken member of the town’s police commission Monday said Police Chief Michael Spera engaged in “overzealous and heavy-handed policing,” and accused his fellow commissioners of abandoning their oversight of the department.
The charges, made by Democratic Commissioner Alfred Wilcox, follows months of tense commission meetings and calls by Wilcox and the other Democrat on the commission, Renee Shippee, to investigate department practices and specific allegations of wrongdoing.
