A concern over an increase in downtown crime kicked off the month of September.
The rate at which the crimes thefts, vandalism and mischief were being committed greatly irritated some downtown merchants.

Among them was Bicycle World owner Allan McGimpsey, who said nearly $5,000 worth of bikes had been stolen from his shop. The Beat Central Dance Company, located not too far away, was also the victim of theft. A Lil’ Pole Fitness on the other hand, was targeted on several occasions by vandals that destroyed several windows.
