Elliot west is the alumni distinguished professor of history emeritus at the u of a. He earned his ph. D. At the university of colorado and the story that we hear is that he went to colorado study the history of the american south, but he was told they dont do that at university of colorado. And so he said so. Instead, he went on to become one of the leading scholars of the American West. He has written nine scholarly books, the last indian war, the nez pares story, the essential west. Hes won numerous prizes for his research, including the casey prize from the western historical association, the Francis Parkman prize from the society of american historians and the billington from the organization of american, those of you that have the good fortune to have been in class with him know that he is an outstanding teacher.
