Mayo man extradited from the U S on charge of dangerous driving causing death

A Co Mayo man is to stand trial in January, after being extradited from the US on a charge of dangerous driving causing death. Francis Carr of Cappaghduff, Tourmakeady, Co Mayo, was extradited on Wednesday, and arrived at Dublin Airport on Thursday morning. He was arrested by gardaí at 6.49am and later brought to Castlebar to appear before the town s District Court. Mr Carr has been in custody in the States since he was arrested on foot of an extradition warrant this summer. He had been seriously injured in the crash three and a half years ago that claimed the lives of his two passengers, but left for the US and has not returned since.

Man extradited from the US on a charge of dangerous driving causing death, appeared in Castlebar Court this morning Published: Thursday, 17 December 2020 11:57  A man extradited from the US overnight, appeared at Castlebar District Court this morning on a charge of dangerous driving causing death following a fatal car crash in Tourmakeady in 2017. Francis Carr, Tourmakeady, Co. Mayo, was the driver of a car which was involved in a road crash some three and a half years ago which claimed the lives of his passengers, Orla O’Malley (18), Cross, Co. Mayo, and Sean Thomas Holleran (20), Clonbur, Co. Galway. Orla O’Malley, a student nurse, was a back-seat passenger and Sean Halloran was in the front seat of a car which crashed into a wall at Churchfield, Tourmakeady, in the early hours of June 4, 2017.

Francis Carr, with an address at Cappaghduff, Tourmakeady, Co Mayo, is alleged to have been the driver of a car which crashed in 2017, resulting in the deaths of two passengers. 18-year-old Orla O Malley, from Cross, Co Mayo, and Sean Thomas Halloran, a 20-year-old from Clonbur, Co Galway, were killed when the car they were travelling in hit a wall near Tourmakeady in June of that year.
