OSPREY chicks have hatched at a south Cumbria nature reserve for the eighth year running. The team at Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve had been waiting with bated breath before the first newborn arrived. The site, situated between Grange and Levens, has now welcomed a total of three chicks to breeding pair Blue 35 and White YW this year. Paul Waterhouse, reserves officer at Cumbria Wildlife Trust, said: This is actually the ninth year the ospreys have nested here, though they didn’t produce any chicks in the first year. So far, they’ve raised 18 chicks, making them a phenomenally successful breeding pair.

Osprey chicks hatch at South Lakes nature reserve
For the eighth year running, osprey chicks have successfully hatched at a South Lakes nature reserve.
Cumbria Wildlife Trust has announced that three osprey chicks have hatched at Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve, making this the eighth year running for the very successful pair of breeding ospreys, Blue 35 and White YW.

He said: “We’ve been watching our osprey webcam with bated breath for the past weeks, and were delighted when the first chick hatched on May 18, followed by two more on 20 and 22 May, after over a month’s incubation.

A South Cumbrian nature reserve is up for international funding award – and you can help it win!
Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve, which is run by Cumbria Wildlife Trust, has been shortlisted by the European Outdoor Conservation Association in its international competition for funding to help continue restoring its peat bogs.
If it wins, it will be given £23,950.
Michelle Waller, senior development officer for Cumbria Wildlife Trust explains more: âWeâre delighted that Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve has been shortlisted.
“Members of the public are now being asked to vote for the winner and weâd love all Cumbrians to vote for Foulshaw Moss.
