Updated / Friday, 7 May 2021 14:19 Kate O Connell said over the years she has faced personalised commentary and attacks on her and think there was a pushback against her Former Fine Gael TD Kate O Connell has confirmed that she will not be running in the forthcoming Dublin Bay South by-election and has accused some party members of running personalised attacks to remove her. Ms O Connell told RTÉ s Today with Claire Byrne that she does not appear to have the support of the party leadership and appears not to be the desired candidate for Fine Gael in the Dublin South by-election . She said that following the resignation of former TD Eoghan Murphy she decided she would attempt to run and made clear her decision to go forward for selection through available channels.

Her party colleague Eoghan Murphy took a seat for Fine Gael - but resigned from the Dáil last month. This morning on RTÉ Kate O Connell confirmed she won t be seeking the nomination to replace him. The pharmacist said she was interested but has had no contact from party HQ and there was a movement by some locally to replace her with another candidate.
