After privately interviewing nearly 60 East Grand Forks movers and shakers, consultants are recommending city officials wait until after a planned sales tax referendum before they roll out a high-profile campaign soliciting private donations to pay for a multi-million-dollar slate of upgrades at the city’s ice arenas and other recreation spots.
East Grand Forks officials' plans to renovate two of the city's ice arenas are still on a distant horizon. While they work toward that, city staff plan to use grants, prize money and, perhaps, "leftover" sales tax revenue to pay for a small chunk of those renovations beforehand.
