people is the sense that it s a forgone conclusion. now that there s a question together with nancy pelosi, we don t know where this is this is headed. congressman maloney, i think one of the things most difficult for people out there to believe is there was no political pressure put on democrats in the house to vote for impeachment. speaker pelosi said it again tonight at the press conference. i know for people who have worked in the house and senate know every once in a while the vote comes along where the leadership in fact does not pressure the members and the members are able to vote their conscience, vote their own choice on this. what can you tell us about how this vote was approached especially by those members, the so-called moderate members, the freshmen who represent districts that were previously represented by a republican. as you watched them get in line to vote for articles of impeachment in the last few days, last couple of weeks.
short, witness-free trial in the senate. the majority of the country thinks we should hear from witnesses. i think we should hear from witnesses. that would help. but mcconnell controls the senate. and if he wants a short trial, we ll have is a short trial. so you don t agree? i think we should hear from some but this should not be protracted, delayed too much because it s a forgone conclusion. i think a few witnesses, do what s right. and the big question for me is what s next? i believe very strongly that if up to the voters when trump is acquitted. i talked to people overseas. i go to china and other countries.
occasionally talking and shouting over each other insistence that facts exist or facts don t matter. that s really troubling. we need to be able to reason together. julie made the point you re not contesting underlying facts. but the deflexes and trying to draw attention elsewhere. saying the facts don t exist that s sufficient. the argument should be about, here s the facts. we can agree that they exist. we can disagree whether it rises to level of impeachment. we haven t been having that level of adult conversation really. interesting how you delineate the two sides. jeffrey, to that point, we ve heard a lot of that and i have a feeling tomorrow hearing a lot more. we don t have specifics in terms of the tick tock of tomorrow. what are the details? can you tell us what are the details they will eventually hammer out to set parameters for the impeachment vote tomorrow? ultimately determining who gets to speak on either side and for how long. seems basically a forgone
formidable candidate earlier, as he had acknowledged and he may still be that. we shouldn t act as if he is going to jump into the race before the new hampshire deadline filing on the 15th and suddenly say this is mine to win circumstances it a forgone conclusion that elizabeth warren can t get the more established side of the democratic party? no, i don t think so. i think anybody in this or bernie sanders? in this particular race could attract different segments of the democratic electorate. also keep in mind we don t necessarily know what this electorate is going to look like, because we have higher turnout than we ever had before, and that includes in this democratic primary. that s why you see, you know, historic races and statewide legislators races in virginia, and you re seeing states that were historically red turn purple and now blue because younger people are voting. a more diverse electorate is taking shape, and that is what s going to, i think, make the difference
forgone conclusion. this has been setup to impeach the president. the democrats are more fired up than ever after a parade of long time apolitical career officials have given damning testimony. lieutenant colonel alexander vindman, the top expert on ukraine on the july call saying this week he s so convinced the president was blocking hundreds of millions in aid for political reasons vindman went to the top lawyers twice. vindman according to a source testified he was told not to talk to anyone about the call. it was colonel vindman along with ambassador taylor who contradicted one of the president s main envoys to ukraine, gordon sondland, who was appointed by trump to be ambassador to the european union. sondland has denied pushing investigation into joe biden and
