Centre extends deadline for NGOs to open account with SBI till June 30 for foreign aid New Delhi, May 19 (UNI) The Centre on Monday extended the deadline till June 30 for Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to open its bank account in State Bank of India to receive foreign funding. In a order issued by the FCRA wing in Foreigners Division, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) decided to extend the deadline for NGOs to open their accounts with the State Bank of India’s (SBI) main branch here from March 31, 2021 to June 30, 2021 for receiving foreign donations for their activities. Opening of an account in the SBI’s branch is a mandatory requirement for the NGOs under the amended provisions of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) enacted in September 2020 to receive foreign donations.

GUWAHATI: Ministry of home affairs (NE Division) has written to chief secretaries of three states Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, which share borders with Myanmar saying that “illegal influx from Myanmar has started” and asked the states not to grant refugee status to any foreigner. The letter also instructed the three states and Assam Rifles, the India-Myanmar border guarding force, “to stay alert and take appropriate action to prevent a possible influx from the neighbouring country into the Indian territory.” MHA deputy secretary (NE III) Krishna Mohan Uppu in his letter said that there was “a probability of large scale illegal influx into Indian territory through IMB (India Myanmar Border) due to current internal situation in Myanmar” and “Now, it has been reported that illegal influx from Myanmar has started.”

The official said that Deputy Secretary, Home, Krishna Mohan Uppu, in a letter to the Chief Secretaries of these four states and the Director General of Assam Rifles, asked them to sensitise all law enforcement and intelligence agencies for taking prompt steps in identifying illegal migrants and initiate their deportation process without delay.
