BRICS foreign ministers discuss influence of COVID-19 crisi

Moscow [Russia], June 1 (ANI): BRICS foreign ministers discussed all the relevant issues of international security and the influence of the COVID-19 crisis on international matters, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday.
In a press conference following the BRICS foreign ministers meeting, Lavrov said the foreign ministers also discussed joint counter-terrorism actions.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar chaired the standalone meeting through video conferencing. It was convened by India as the current BRICS Chair.
The meeting was attended by Brazil Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Alberto Franco Franca, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor.

New Delhi [India], June 1 (ANI): BRICS member states on Tuesday reaffirmed the need for a comprehensive reform of the United Nations, including its Security Council, to make it more representative, effective and efficient, and to increase the representation of the developing countries so that it can adequately respond to global challenges.
During the BRICS foreign ministers, China and Russia reiterated the importance they attach to the status and role of Brazil, India and South Africa in international affairs and supported their aspiration to play a greater role in the UN.
By emphasizing unity of jointly weathering COVID-19 pandemic, and boosting economic recovery and cooperation on international and regional issues, the BRICS Foreign Ministers virtual meeting on Tuesday was seen by observers as sending a strong signal of bloc members desire to uphold multilateralism, and deterrence to countries like the US that tried to fragment the organization and sow discord among the BRICS members.

New Delhi [India], June 1 (ANI): Asserting that Beijing stands with New Delhi amid the COVID-19 crisis, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday said all BRICS member countries including China will provide support and assistance to India as it fights against the second wave of the pandemic. I once again expressed my sympathy to India amid a new wave of the pandemic. In this trying time, China stands with India and all BRICS countries. As long as it is needed by India, all BRICS partners including China will provide further support and assistance at any time. And we are confident that India will certainly overcome the pandemic, said Wang Yi at BRICS foreign ministers meeting.
