Bryan County Commission paves way for commercial development in north Bryan Steve Scholar PEMBROKE The Bryan County Commission on Jan. 12 rezoned seven parcels in north Bryan from agricultural to commercial, paving the way for commercial development in the northern end of the county. Known individually as the Blitchton Timberland tract on Highway 80; the Herbert Warnell tract at Highway 80 and I-16, the Warnell Farm tract at Highway 80 at Olive Branch Road: the Conley tract off Eldora Road and the Davis Tract, also off Eldora Road. The commission held the required five public hearings and several neighbors expressed concern about the rezonings and how commercial development would affect drainage, light and noise pollution.

The first responders have always supported me through the pandemic, he said. Business has been slow lately and the area first responders have supported me and helped our business. They mean so much to our community that I just wanted to do something for them and recognized them for the support they ve given me and our community.     I wanted to give back to them for the services they provide.   

RH City Council OKs historic district

By Mike Brown For Bryan County Now It was two years in the planning but the Ford Avenue Historic District is now officially a designated area in the city of Richmond Hill. City Council approved an amendment to an ordinance creating the city’s first historic district at its regularly scheduled Jan. 5 meeting which was a quick moving one lasting roughly 25 minutes with all items on the short agenda approved with minimal discussion. Assistant City Manager Scott Allison, noting the ordinance had been discussed at two workshops, at a public hearing and had a first reading at the previous council meeting said the amendment was “primarily a house-cleaning exercise” as he explained the change was to repeal some conflicting ordinances.

Bryan County stays a decisive red in Tuesday s runoff election Steve Scholar Bryan County voters held the red line in Tuesday s senate races with incumbents Kelly Loeffler and David Purdue getting decisive victories in their respective races. With all 10 county precincts reporting, Loeffler garnered 11,968 votes to Raphael Warnock s 5,100 and David Perdue bested Jon Ossoff 11,971 to 5,105. In the Public Service Commission race, incumbent Republican Bubba McDonald Jr. easily beat challenger Daniel Blackman 12,076 to 4,836. More than 54% 17,085 of the county s 31,344 registered voters took to the polls in what Bryan County Elections Supervisor Cindy Reynolds said was one of the highest turnouts for a runoff election in memory.
