Police oppose criminal justice reform bill

SPRINGFIELD The Illinois Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) State Lodge has released the results of a member survey taken last month regarding the ramifications of House Bill 3653, the so-called police reform legislation that passed the Illinois General Assembly during the January Lame Duck Session.
The survey shows that those in law enforcement overwhelmingly oppose the provisions of the legislation and feel it will have a large negative impact on both the profession and the citizens that officers serve and protect.
“The survey results are no surprise because it’s clear to anyone who reads the bill that law enforcement was not involved in drawing up its final provisions,” said Illinois FOP State Lodge President Chris Southwood. “The legislation prevents officers from taking immediate, potentially life-saving action in critical situations.
