in actually obeying the constitution themselves. and doing their duty. you know, take, for example, we ve seen just about 140,000 deportations in 2023. to put that in context, we have 300,000 people that we know of across our border in december alone. so these court dates for these folks aren t until 2030 now. that is how backed up they are. those people won t stick around for their court date in six years. so we re seeing now bill: the numbers are staggering and we visit it every day and we wonder when it is going to stop and what bill just said about the cartels making the millions that they do by the week should stun everybody watching this story. thank you for your time. great to have you. thanks for being here. president biden setting the tone for his re-election campaign with a pair of speeches upcoming. they are some interesting location choices, huh?
out. obviously looking at candidates like tim scott, for example. chris cristty has his own, and are they wored about that? of course, the desantis folks aren t grog to feel they have a particular challenge from any other candidate. their eyes are set on donald trump. one candidate caught my eye recently, the entrepreneur, conservative entrepreneur, imswami, ticking up and spending a little of money, much from his own wallet, but we are seeing impact on the polls and he s spent significant nime iowa and new hampshire, which, of course, is the strategy for any candidate taking this seriously. so i m going to keep an eye on him. he is, of course, polling better than some other candidates in the field. end of the day, there s still a big margin between trump and the
debate. instead this is not happening in a vacuum, these types of issues popping up, the former president talking about washing machines. take a listen. now they want to take away your gas stoves. does anybody like gas better? you cook a lot more than i do. because i have a lot of friends that are really into the cooking thing and they say gas is better. but they want to take it away. they want to take away your washing machines and your dryers. they don t want to give you any water for the washing machine. this is happening over and over. you see people zero in on something specific and to the point it s not based in fact, often simply to drive that type of outrage. but just like the gas stove, folks aren t coming for the pizza oven but that s not going to stop the outrage machine from moving. as a chicagoan impartial to the way we do pizza around there. no way. as long as i get my plastic straws back, i think i will take it. i got one the other day and i felt guilty for u
folks, my economic plan is about investing in places and people that have been forgotten. joining us now congressional reporter for the hill mikal snell. thanks for being with us this morning. this state of the union looked different from the one last year and a divided washington on display with kevin mccarthy, the house republican being behind him. and certainly despite the president s calls for bipartisanship, plenty of contentious very partisan moments. what stood out to you? so you re exactly right. we knew going into this state of the union it would be a different situation because of that divided congress. one of the moments that stood out is frequent calls from congresswoman marjorie taylor greene needling the president for various things he said. at one point marjorie taylor
you well know, is in part a snapshot of that moment in time and certainly police reform front of minds for so many americans after what we saw in memphis in recent week. the president touched upon it last night. tell us more. that s one of the areas we re not likely to see any real bipartisan legislation. democrats and republicans worked hard to get the george floyd justice in policing act. democrats weren t able to get republican colleagues to help them do that even though they were in the majority. even after tyre nichols death said the president said i looked to you all to do something. now i need you congress to do something more. you notice he didn t mention the george floyd justice and policing act more than one time because he knows after conversations with folks on the hill, after hearing from parents who are victims of these horrific incidents, folks aren t hanging on to that piece of
